Clendon Armed Robbery

A few days ago we said that armed robbery must be the fastest growing occupation after staff and customers were threatened at gun point by two men in the ASB Bank in Grey Lynn.

Today five more people decided to make a career move. Three of them robbed security guards as they were attending to an ATM at the Westpac Bank in Clendon this morning at 11.30am. Two of the thieves threatened the guards with “rifle-type” weapons and the gang of three eventually made their getaway in a people carrier with another two people already in it.

It’s the first time we’ve heard of a people carrier being used in an armed heist in New Zealand, it’s not the usual choice for a getaway vehicle. It has a domestic feel about it.

Armed robbery is now something that the whole family can ‘enjoy’?

It’s not  fun for the security guards, or their families though. Let’s hope the police catch those responsible soon.
